PhotographResearch Interests
I am a pediatric neuropsychologist with a record of federally funded investigations of the childhood sequelae of early brain insults. I have evaluated outcomes of several different childhood neurological conditions, including meningitis, acute lymphocytic leukemia, low birth weight, and traumatic brain injury. My major interests are in assessment of the cognitive, developmental, and educational outcomes of early brain disease, and in identification of medical and social factors that predict outcomes.

Current Projects
My current research focuses on cognitive, social-behavioral, and academic outcomes of extremely low birth weight and traumatic brain injury. I am also involved in studies of family interventions for children with traumatic brain injury and of the effects of maternal HIV disease in Kenya on early child development. My overall research aims are to better understand the effects of early neurological risks and the relevance of social and environmental factors as determinants of outcome. I am also interested in clinical applications of research findings for neuropsychological assessment of children with specific cognitive and learning problems.

I am also involved in research with children with selective mutism, an anxiety disorder of childhood.
